Hadith
Hadiths are teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and
narrated through the Companions and successors of the Companions.
Hadiths are an indispensable and unrivalled source of understanding of
the Quran and act as a guidepost in matters of Islamic jurisprudence.
Combined with the teachings of the Quran, Hadiths complete our syllabus
in practicing Islam.
Hadith of the Day presents to you carefully selected Hadiths on
issues and matters that are paramount to an Islamic way of life, as
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had intended for these pearls of
wisdom to guide us. Insha'Allah you will find them just as inspiring and
enlightening as they have been for me in strengthening my faith and
guiding me, drawing me closer to Allah in every step.
Parents

ordered to give option to his wives, he started with me, saying, “I am
going to mention to you something, but you shall not hasten (to give
your reply) unless you consult your parents.” The Prophet (peace be upon
him) knew that my parents would not order me to leave him. Then he
said, “Allah says: ‘O Prophet (Muhammad)! Say to your wives: If you
desire the life of this world and its glitter…a great reward.”
(33.28-29) I said, “Then why I consult my parents? Verily, I seek Allah,
His Apostle and the Home of the Hereafter.” Then all the other wives of
the Prophet (peace be upon him) did the same as I did.

of Allah’s Apostle and she was a pagan. I said to Allah’s Apostle

Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Yes, keep good relation with her.”

asked the Prophet, ‘Which deed is loved most by Allah?’ He replied, ‘To
offer prayers at their early (very first) stated times.’ ‘Abdullah
asked, ‘What is the next (in goodness)?’ The Prophet (peace be upon him)
said, ‘To be good and dutiful to one’s parents.’ ‘Abdullah asked, ‘What
is the next (in goodness)?’ The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘To
participate in Jihad for Allah’s Cause.’ ‘Abdullah added, ‘The Prophet
(peace be upon him) narrated to me these three things, and if I had
asked more, he would have told me more.’ ”
Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 73 Hadith 1
Knowledge
Narrated Hasan: Knowledge is of two types. Firstly, knowledge

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him)
saying, “Allah will not deprive you of knowledge after he has given it

who, when consulted, will give verdicts according to their opinions
whereby they will mislead others and go astray.”
Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 92 Hadith 410
Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)
said to me: Acquire the knowledge and impart it to the people. Acquire
the knowledge of Fara’id (laws of inheritance) and teach it to the
people, learn the Qur’an and teach it to the people; for I am a person
who has to depart this world and the knowledge will be taken away and
turmoil will appear to such an extent that two people will not agree in
regard to a case of inheritance distribution and find none who would
decide between them.

Narrated Abu Juhaifa: I asked Ali, “Do you have the knowledge of any
Divine Inspiration besides what is in Allah’s Book?” Ali replied, “No,

we have such knowledge, but we have the ability of understanding which
Allah may endow a person with, so that he may understand the Qur’an, and
we have what is written in this paper as well.” I asked, “What is
written in this paper?” He replied, “(The regulations of) blood-money,
the freeing of captives, and the judgment that no Muslim should be
killed for killing an infidel.”
Marriage

Narrated Abdullah: We were with the Prophet (peace be upon him) while
we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah’s Apostle said, “O

helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts
from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not
able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.”
Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 62 Hadith 4
Narrated Abu Haraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “A lady slave should not
be given in marriage until she is consulted, and a virgin should not be
given in marriage until her permission is granted.” The people said,
“How will she express her permission?” The Prophet (peace be upon him)
said, “By keeping silent (when asked her consent).” Some people said,
“If a man, by playing a trick, presents two false witnesses before the
judge to testify that he has married a matron with her consent and the

not give her any reply. She again stood up for the third time and said,
“She has given herself in marriage to you: so give your opinion of her.”
So a man stood up and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Marry her to me.” The
Prophet asked him, “Have you got anything?” He said, “No.” the Prophet
said, “Go and search for something, even if it were an iron ring.” The
man went and searched and then returned saying, “I could not find
anything, not even an iron ring.” Then the Prophet said, “Do you know
something of the Quran (by heart)?” He replied, “I know (by heart) such

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas The temporary marriage applied only in
the early days of Islam. A man would come to a settlement where he had
no acquaintance and marry a woman for the period it was thought he would

station of Abraham), then performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa.” Ibn
Umar added, “Verily! In Allah’s Apostle you have a good example.” And I
asked Jabir bin Abdullah (the same question), and he replied, “You
